Osteoarthritis is very common in our older patients; it is a degenerative disease with no “cure,” that is progressively painful and can affect any joint in the body. While there is no true cure, there are certainly things that we can do to help slow down the progression of the disease, and keep your furry loved one comfortable. There are 2 kinds of osteoarthritis:
Osteoarthritis will happen as a result of either inflammation or previous injury to a joint. When the cartilage within the joint is injured, it will cause swelling, deformity and pain. Cartilage covers the bones and protects them from rubbing against each other; it is a firm, rubber-like material – think of it as a shock absorber for joints!
